28 Web Conference Training Tips

B. J. Schone has posted an excellent article on planning and executing webinars at E-Learning Weekly.

  • When E-Learning Council holds a webinar we try to support the presenter with a moderator to handle questions and technical support to handle the inevitable glitches that seem to manifest themselves.
  • Through hard experience we have learned to test, test, test and freeze the configuration.  An instructor wanted to use their own laptop after we had tested the conference software on a particular setup–we had glitches all afternoon.  Never again.
  • A rule we violate (and by a large amount) is we frequently have a hundred people attend a webinar (they recommend six).  Perhaps the difference between training and webinars.
If you’re about to do a web conference–this article is well worth the read.

Keeping up with E-Learning Industry News

Need to keep up with the news from the Training industry?  There are several news aggregation services that make it easier.   News aggregation services use RSS feeds to gather headlines from selected sites.   Useful news aggregators for E-Learning include:

  • E-Learning Council’s own News Clips Section.  The News Clips section allows you to view the news by category (Accessibility, Software, General, etc.) or by source.
  • Guy Kawasaki Alltop Site has a Top E-Learning News Section that is quite useful
  • Tony Karrer has set up eLearning Learning to collect the very best E-Learning blog posts and articles from around. the web.
These three aggregators will help you find some of the best E-Learning information on the internet.
Want more?  Look for forum entries that periodically aggregate the best Twitter postings for E-Learning in E-Learning Council’s General Forum.

Public Electronic Services On-the-Internet (PESO) Working Group – 8 July 2009

Program – 508 Checklists – Accessibility Compliance Plans and Evaluating a VPAT

Now that you have published your accessibility policy you may need to update your compliance plan/implementation plan to align with the policy. There are several checklists that will assist you in developing your plan and also help to unlock the meaning of the VPAT requirements.

We will look at the following checklists:

  • NASA Goddard Space Flight Center – Section 508 Web Accessibility Checklist (http://web508.gsfc.nasa.gov/developing/checklist/index.cfm)
  • WebAIM – Section 508 Checklist (http://www.webaim.org/standards/508/checklist.php)

We will look at the VPAT for Firefox using the NASA 508 checklist.
